The usual film for an event like this is a recap: fast cuts, big music, everyone smiling, cool transitions. SHF needed to tell why this annual event matters.

So the race went second. First came the reasons.

Twenty-five teams at Crescent Beach. Eight interviews in one day. And behind it, why this race exists at all: one in four kids in B.C. will deal with a mental health issue.

I've seen this film more times than anyone ever will, and the part that still gets me is not the race. It's the reasons.

It takes a brave client to let their own event ride in the back seat of its own film. SHF made that call, and it's their film because of it. Thanks to the whole team for trusting us with it.

The event is what happened, the story is how and why it happened.

Ask people why they came. The recap can wait.
