Slatecase: privacy

Last updated: November 6, 2026

Slatecase stores your library on your device and, when sync is enabled, in your private iCloud. We don’t operate a server that receives your library.

What Slatecase stores on your device

  • Your kit, shoots, shot lists, notes, looks and links.

  • Photos you take or choose for your gear, shots and looks. They are saved inside the app, not in your photo library.

  • Your settings, such as the app colour.

When data leaves your device

  • Backups: when you tap Back up, the app makes one file and you choose where to save it (for example Files or iCloud Drive). That file then follows the rules of wherever you put it.

  • iCloud sync: iCloud sync is on by default when available; you can turn it off in Settings › iCloud. With Sync on, your kit, shoots, notes, looks and their photos are kept in your own private iCloud through Apple’s CloudKit, so they reach your other devices signed in to the same iCloud. We can’t see that data; Apple holds it under your iCloud account and Apple’s privacy policy. Turn Sync off any time in Settings › iCloud; everything stays on your device.

  • Location search (Apple Maps): when you type a shoot’s place, what you type is sent to Apple Maps as you type, to suggest places. The app doesn’t ask for or use your own location.

  • Weather (Apple Weather): for a shoot with a place, its map position is sent to Apple Weather to get that day’s forecast. Apple Weather is credited wherever its forecast appears.

  • Sharing: when you share a shot list, you pick the app and the person it goes to.

  • Links: when you open a link you saved (a script, an email, a doc) or a photographer’s page from a starter look, it opens in its own app or browser, under that service’s own privacy policy.

If you sign up for tips and updates (optional)

  • If you enter your email in our sign-up form, it is kept by Kit, our mailing service, and used only to send you Slatecase tips and news, about once a month. It isn’t sold or shared. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to delete it at slatecase@puggersvideoproduction.com.

  • If you skip it, nothing changes: the app works the same.

TestFlight and support

During TestFlight testing, Apple shares crash and usage information and feedback you submit with us. If you contact support, we receive the information you send.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera: only when you choose to take a photo of your gear, a shot or a reference.

  • Photos: only to pick the photos you choose. The app doesn’t read your library.

  • Notifications: only if you turn on the night-before reminder. Reminders are scheduled on your device.

You can turn any of these off in your iPhone’s Settings at any time.

Deleting your data

Delete the app, and everything it stored on your device goes with it. Deleting the app does not delete copies in iCloud or backups saved elsewhere.

Children

Slatecase is a tool for working filmmakers and isn’t directed at children.

Changes

If this ever changes (for example, if we add AI features that send data off your device), we’ll update this page and say so in the app before it happens.
